Technology Review
Everyone today loves to own gadgets and often spend time reading technology reviews on a variety of products. You may look at reviews relating to a mobile phone or a washing machine or a car. You like to know what other people think about the product and how users have found the product. You want to know if a product developed glitches after use or provided a trouble free experience.
Yet, you do not have to be an expert on the technology to write a review! You may just be an user who can differentiate between the features of a product and compare it with another in the same niche market. What does x gadget offer me that y does not and so on…
So, here are a few guidelines for those who want to do technology reviews. Here is what you do if you are writing about a piece of hardware–say a mobile phone or a laptop computer:
- Detailed specifications of the product under review;
- The release date;
- The niche market;
- The competition in the niche;
- A comparative comment on the product vis a vis the competition;
- Performance metrics;
- Problems noted;
- Recommendation to the purchaser or user
If you are reviewing a software product:
- The purpose of the software;
- Who will find it useful–the user base;
- The niche market and the competition;
- The operating system and other environment specifications for installing and loading the software;
- Hardware configurations and issues if any;
- The features and functions of the software with screenshots;
- The problems noted during runtime and speed of resolution by the software designers;
- Summary and Recommendation;
